Rabbi Brant Rosen publicly denounced Israel’s institutional oppression of Palestinians and founded the anti-Zionist synagogue Tzedek Chicago in 2015. Even without calling it apartheid, Rosen notes that other Jewish organizations see that annexation “would enact an institutionalized, formal system of discrimination between two ethnic-national populations, both living in the same territory, with each governed by a separate set of laws.” Committed to Jewish values, Rabbi Rosen says that it should be clearer than ever that equity, justice and rights for all people will only happen when we honestly reckon with the legacy of institutional racism, including the treatment of Palestinian families.
He is described by Tikkun editor Rabbi Michael Lerner as “at once a courageous rabbi and the voice of a new generation of American Jews who are refusing to allow the right-wing voices of the Jewish world to define Judaism.” Rosen has written the book Wresting in the Daylight: A Rabbi’s Path to Palestinian Solidarity.
