Burying the Nakba features an investigative report by Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz that uncovered a vast conspiracy by the Israeli government to conceal evidence of the Nakba – the 1948 expulsion of Palestinian people from their homes.
This report included a 1948 document from the Jewish paramilitary organization Shai (meaning “gift or “present”), the precursor to Shin Bet, that stated 70% of Palestinian expulsions were due to Jewish military operations.
This information, along with scores of other official Israeli reports, was suppressed by the Malmab (Israeli Ministry Defense Security) for decades, to the point that the Malmab restricted and censored previously non-classified information and interviews. Ha’aretz details specific instances of researchers discovering that previously non-classified documents had been restricted by the Ministry of Defense, post-publication.
