Documenting Displacement in Qaqun
Displacement in Qaqun

Remembering the 1948 Nakba in Palestine is essential to honoring the history of Israel’s formation. Pal48’s website is dedicated to documenting the violence of the Nakba through statistics, articles, and a catalog of massacres against Palestinians as well as media, video, and photo libraries. Through their search feature, you can find evidence organized into collections either based on individual massacres committed by Israeli (IDF) forces or by each town or village destroyed. Their page dedicated to the village of Qaqun includes population statistics prior to displacement, a location map, and a historical collection of town images. The album begins with village photos prior to occupation, then shows historical black-and-white images of the town’s invasion by Jewish settlers. Lastly, the collection includes images of Qaqun’s modern landscape amongst the village ruins. This important archive documents the village’s history of violence through both rare images and contextual data.
