Looting Palestinian Property
1948 looting of Palestinian property

Historian Adam Raz wrote the book Looting of Arab Property in the War of Independence, published in Hebrew in 2020 by Israeli publishing house Carmel in association with the Akevot Institute for Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Research. In the book, Raz uncovers how Israeli soldiers and Jewish civilians looted the Arab families’ properties in 1948. The Haaretz article about the book’s release reminded its readers that even David Ben-Gurion stated in 1948, two months after the establishment of the State of Israel, that “most of the Jews are thieves.” Israeli journalist Gideon Levy wrote an editorial on the book, in which he agrees, adding that “the looters were a cog in the large machine of the expulsion of the Arabs.” The book can be purchased here.
