Mira Sucharov

Dr. Mira Sucharov is Professor of Political Science and University Chair of Teaching Innovation at Carleton University. She is the author of Borders and Belonging: A Memoir (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021), a book about her personal experiences with Israel/Palestine, and she is a regular contributor to Haaretz op-eds and other newspapers; in one Haaretz op-ed, she is supportive of the BDS movement aimed at achieving equal rights for Palestinians and Israelis.

Sucharov is the founding co-chair of the Jewish Politics Division at the Association for Jewish Studies and is co-editor (with Chaya Halberstam) of AJS Perspectives. At Carleton, she developed courses in Israeli-Palestinian relations, op-ed writing and social media engagement, and graphic novels and political identity.

In this interview with the Ottowa Forum on Israel/Palestine, Dr. Sucharov discusses growing up as a progressive Canadian Jew inundated with conflicting ideas about Israel.
