The New Israel Fund (NIF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring “complete equality to all” citizens of Israel by promoting democratic values, building coalitions, and empowering activists that can “drive meaningful social change in Israel.” The group believe that “inequality, injustice and extremism” have diminished Israel and Jewish values, so they aim to “advance liberal democracy, including freedom of speech and minority rights” in order to reestablish a just society. NIF supports Israeli civil society groups advocating for human rights, democracy, and social justice for all Israelis and Palestinians. It funds initiatives that promote equality, protect minority rights, and build a more just and peaceful society.
The organization works on a wide range of human and civil rights issues, including social and economic justice, combating racism, defending asylum seekers, advancing religious pluralism, promoting democracy and Jewish-Arab relations, and supporting environmental justice. Some of their main projects include advocating for the human rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel, fighting for religious tolerance, and working towards gender equity.
NIF works through a variety of vehicles, including grantmaking, consultancy and support, and funding priorities for human and civil rights, social and economic justice, religious pluralism, and the environment.
