Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) is an independent, local Palestinian child rights organization dedicated to defending and promoting the rights of children living in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. DCIP released a report in December 2020 which documents more than 100 cases over a three-year period of Israeli military illegally holding Palestinian children in isolation for two or more days of interrogation. The average duration of isolation was 14.3 days; nearly 40% of the children endured solitary confinement for longer than 16 days. 94% of the children did not have access to legal consultation prior to the interrogations and isolation. The report concludes that Israel’s practices amount to torture under international law norms.
