Philip Weiss

Phil Weiss, a Harvard graduate, is the founder and co-editor of Mondoweiss.net, an independent website devoted to informing readers about developments in Israel/Palestine and related US foreign policy. Mondoweiss provides news and analysis unavailable through the mainstream media regarding the struggle for Palestinian human rights. Founded in 2006 as a personal blog of journalist Philip Weiss, Mondoweiss grew inside the progressive Jewish community and has become a critical resource for the movement for justice for Palestinians. Mondoweiss follows debates over the role of Israel and nationalism in Jewish American life while seeking to reflect a diverse community of views on issues of international importance.

In a two part series “Among the Settlers” and “The World the Settlers Made,” Weiss describes his first hand experiences visiting four Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The two articles are also available as a print publication from Middle East Books. The five days in January 2016 that Phil Weiss spent immersed in the world of Israeli settlers gave him a vivid, immediate experience of their daily lives, and a greater understanding of their worldview. His writing undertakes to convey the blinders and the insights of those he visited.

Weiss spoke on “Mainstream media coverage of Israel and Palestine.” How is it getting better? How is it getting worse?” at the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs “Israel’s Influence” conference in March 2016.
