The Union of Palestinian Women Committees Society (UPWC) is community organization with a self-described “progressive feminist” outlook. They were founded in 1980 and focus on building a “democratic Palestinian civil society free of all forms of discrimination in pursuit of justice.” The UPWC aims to improve the lives of Palestinian women, such as with campaigns that advocate for “the participation of women in the electoral process whether by running, voting or active participation, through workshops and dialogue meetings with candidates.” They also run programs for women’s mental health, legal support, economic empowerment, and even children’s programs. Even though their focus is supporting women and children, this organization, along with five others, was declared a “terrorist organization” by Israeli leadership.
